Howdy ya’ll!
Today is my stop in the Making Connections Blog Hop. The lovely Dorie Hruska’s new book Making Connections is a fun workbook that makes grid quilting easy! With lots of helpful tips and diagrams, Dorie takes you step by step with fun quilting designs. Whether you’re a longarmer or domestic machine quilter, this book is for you! It’s laid out as a workbook which is super helpful and really got my mind thinking in a different direction.

When Dorie was looking for bloggers for the blog hop, I jumped at the chance. I ordered the book and as soon as it came was inspired in new ways to quilt. I love free motion quilting, especially when there are very few starts and stops involved. Dorie does a great job guiding you through the process of each design and makes it easy to follow. I had a quilt top which I completed at a sewing retreat 3 years ago (embarrassing…I’m sure none of ya’ll have any of those) and still needed to be quilted.

I’m glad that I hadn’t quilted it yet, because it was the perfect quilt to practice new designs on from the Making Connections book. The quilt itself is rather busy so I decided to try one of the more simple designs in the book (connecting curves with petals) and I absolutely love how it turned out.  What do ya’ll think?

Wonderful that you had a quilt top to play with. It turned out so well.

I quilt on my domestic Pfaff. And yes, I have a bunch of quilt tops waiting to be quilted. Is that embarrassing or is it an indicator of how productive I've been? It's all in how you spin it.

I quilt on a domestic machine. I keep it very simple, but would like to learn new ways to quilt that would make it easy and pretty. Your quilt turned out great, the quilting fits the quilt.

I do my own quilting on my domestic machine. I don't even know where I'd go if I wanted to hire a long-armer! I'm guessing I'd have to pack it up in a box and mail it far away. So far, I've been able to get 'er done myself!

I use a domestic machine to fmq small quilts and rent time on a longarm at my local quilt shop for larger ones. When I fly south for the winter, my quilting group in my village has a longarm, Gammill, that I can use.
