Our 6 year old partner in the company directed his very own Thread Cutter video. It included Yadi the cat and Owen and Blue from Jurassic World. He wanted to use the Jurassic Park theme song but we didn’t want to pay the licensing fees 😜

Leave a comment below so Jared knows how he did!

Been There Mug Rug Swap

4/18/2018

Howdy all of you caffeine and quilt fans!
This secret swap is for sewers/quilters who also love caffeine/Starbucks mugs. In this swap you must have an Instagram account. You will make one mug rug (description below) and purchase one of the new Starbucks Been There Mug Series mugs (examples below). If you wish to send other goodies, that's up to you! You will be partnered with someone and it must be kept secret until the end of the swap. Who you make something for will not be making something for you. Throughout the swap post on Instagram using the hashtag #BeenThereMugRugSwap, using this hashtag will allow everyone to follow along and see what everyone is making. Trying to guess your secret partner is half of the fun!

What is a mug rug?
A Mug Rug is basically a larger coaster around the 4" X 6" size and includes 3 layers: the top, batting and backing, secured by binding. This is just like a quilt with 3 layers and binding. If you're confused on mug rugs, search the hashtag #mugrug on Instagram or use google search; you will be able to see hundreds of examples. The important thing is to be creative and make something that you would wish to receive yourself.

What do the Starbucks Been There Series Mugs look like?
I've been able to purchase two mugs already and included a photo so you can be on the lookout at your local Starbucks.

*RULES*
1. This swap is SECRET until the end.
2. For this first round we are limiting it to USA only, if there is enough interest we can open it to International next round.
3. Make ONE Mug Rug
4. Purchase ONE Been There Series Mug from Starbucks.
-You make include other goodies in your package but it's not mandatory. (Examples: stationary, candy, tea, fabric, etc).
5. Please mail by deadline! Do not mail sooner than first mailing day, that way everyone's arrives around the same time.
6. Please be aware of your partners likes and dislikes. Be detailed in your survey to help your partner make something you love.
7. Use #BeenThereMugRugSwap during the swap on Instagram and at the end show the package your sending and receive.
8. Have FUN!

Other Tips:
-Something helpful would be creating a collage of images you like and posting it to Instagram so your partner can see. (Example: find different mug rugs, fabrics, colors you like).
-Follow other people on Instagram who are participating in the swap as well, make new quilty friends!
-Check out your partners profile on Instagram to see what their tastes/personality/likes are.
-A great private swap to check is #starbucksmugrugswap. You can find tons of inspiration in that swap as they have done many rounds with lots of talented quilters.

Timeline/Important Dates:
-Signups are Open today April 18th and will close Wednesday April 25th.
You can signup HERE
-Partner Emails will be emailed/assigned by Wednesday May 2nd.
-Start Shipping Packages (no earlier than) Wednesday May 30th.
-Last day to Ship Packages is Wednesday June 6th.

If you're able to meet these deadlines than please sign up for our fun swap. We understand that life happens, if you're not able to complete the deadline after you've already signed up please let us know ASAP so we can get your partner a quilt angel.

Howdy ya’ll!
Today is my stop in the Making Connections Blog Hop. The lovely Dorie Hruska’s new book Making Connections is a fun workbook that makes grid quilting easy! With lots of helpful tips and diagrams, Dorie takes you step by step with fun quilting designs. Whether you’re a longarmer or domestic machine quilter, this book is for you! It’s laid out as a workbook which is super helpful and really got my mind thinking in a different direction.

When Dorie was looking for bloggers for the blog hop, I jumped at the chance. I ordered the book and as soon as it came was inspired in new ways to quilt. I love free motion quilting, especially when there are very few starts and stops involved. Dorie does a great job guiding you through the process of each design and makes it easy to follow. I had a quilt top which I completed at a sewing retreat 3 years ago (embarrassing…I’m sure none of ya’ll have any of those) and still needed to be quilted.

I’m glad that I hadn’t quilted it yet, because it was the perfect quilt to practice new designs on from the Making Connections book. The quilt itself is rather busy so I decided to try one of the more simple designs in the book (connecting curves with petals) and I absolutely love how it turned out.  What do ya’ll think?

Thank you Dorie and C&T Publishing for allowing me to be part of this blog hop!
